Demi Moore wore this bronze YSL Christian Dior (thanks Sasha!) at the grand opening of Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Weekend.

Hilary Swank rock her white YSL dress with Boucheron drop earrings to European premiere of "PS, I Love You".

For her first public outing since having her daughter Suri Cruise, Katie Holmes wore a flattering black YSL cocktail dress at the Los Angeles premiere of "Mission: Impossible III".

One common trend among the three is the sash fitted at the bodice.

KATIE HOLMES LOVES HER ASYMMETRICAL LOOK

Actress Katie Holmes stepped out on the red carpet for the first time in 2008 WITHOUT her husband Tom Cruise.

At the 13th Annual Critics' Choice Awards, Katie wore a one-shouldered Lanvin gown.

Katie seems to get a kick out of wearing an asymmetrical dress as she did when she attended the AFI Fest opening night gala presentation of "Lions For Lambs" in a Monique Lhuillier number.

For the Oscars, would Katie wear another asymmetrical piece or not? Well, we just have to wait and see.

CHANEL SHOE MOMENT

Chanel patent leather pumps are having a luxe moment as displayed by Carrie Underwood, Beyonce Knowles, Thandie Newton, and Ciara.

These patent leather shoes can be seen in the Chanel Fall 2007 collection (see photo montage below).

Carrie was the first of the fashionistas mentioned to wear these Chanel shoe at the L.A.M.B show during New York Fashion Week. Ciara recently wore these red Chanel pumps just like Thandie's in concert.

What's so alluring about this fab shoe of the moment from Chanel is the traditional double CC logo resting upon on the straps.

Are these Chanel shoes simply having a moment or would it become the ideal shoe to wear in 2008? Time will only tell...

SOLANGE'S RUFFLES HOOPLA

Songwriter Solange Knowles is enjoying wearing ruffles out on the catwalk. Her best ruffle look was her gold Giambattista Valli mini-dress at the 2007 American Music Awards.

Prior to that, all year round Solange has maintain wearing this style...hopefully this is not a style rut but a signature style. I applaud Solange for being fashion confident enough to wear blue tights with black and white check shoes at People magazine's Grammy nomination party (see first row).

Another trend heating up the catwalk is what I described as fishtail hoopla. Fishtail hoopla is all about the fitted silhouette with a mermaid-like hem line. Below is a few examples of this new trend on the catwalk...

The style on the 2007 American Music Awards catwalk was all about gold and black as modeled by Beyonce Knowles, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Ashanti, and Nicole Scherzinger.

Then & Now AMA's Style: Beyonce

For the 2006 American Music Awards, the Houston, Texas singer decided upon this turquoise Elie Saab number. At this year, Beyonce went for a golden look in this strapless fishtail curve-hugging House of Deréon dress. I don't know about that blue detailing in the bodice but Beyonce makes this look work!

Then & Now AMA's Style: Alicia Keys

The last time Alicia Keys appeared on the catwalk for the American Music Awards was back in 2004. There the Hell's Kitchen, NY native rock a brown and black military-inspired Roberto Cavalli top. For this year's event, Alicia Keys kicked up her style several notches in this black beaded Emporio Armani cocktail number. (I do love her Chanel bracelets!)

At the 2004 American Music Awards, the Glen Clove, NY native wore this peach, brown, and white Roberto Cavalli gown. For this year's show, Ashanti rock a canary yellow princess-like gown.

2007 AMA's style: Rihanna

For her first time at the American Music Awards (surprise! surprise!), Rihanna lit up the catwalk in a Armani Prive knee-length dress and a black pair of Christian Louboutin pumps. The Covergirl spokesmodel performed her hits, "Umbrella" and "Hate that I Love You" in a beige form-fitting Zac Posen number.

Then & Now AMA's style: Nicole Scherzinger

At last year's American Music Awards, Nicole rock a blush pink low-cut dress before changing into gold sequin low-cut Roberto Cavalli number for her PCD performance. For this year's event, Nicole changed into three eye-catching outfits. (Nicole belted out her hit, "Baby Love" in a pair of black YSL heels and a silver sequin asymmetrical mini-dress.) For her red carpet look, Nicole went for a multi-colored v-neck gown.
